Egypt orders yearlong school expulsion for students filming teachers

The education ministry announced a yearlong expulsion for students caught recording teachers on campus to bully or share online.

Minister of Education and Technical Education Mohamed Abdel-Latif ordered all schools nationwide to expel for a full academic year any student who films a teacher on campus. Announced on Monday, the measure forms part of a wider ministry campaign to protect teachers from public humiliation and enforce stricter classroom discipline.

The directive falls under Ministerial Decree 150 of 2024 governing student incentives and discipline. It applies whenever a student uses a phone, camera, or other recording device inside school premises to insult, bully, or circulate footage of an instructor on social media.

The Ministry of Education and Technical Education stated that preserving the standing, dignity, and respect of educators, alongside maintaining a disciplined environment, remains a foundational pillar of the educational process.

This decision adds to a series of circulars issued this year to tighten oversight of classroom conduct. Since taking office, Abdel-Latif has overseen a broader crackdown that includes stricter rules on attendance, exams, and late-stage transfers into international curricula.
