More than 3.1 million primary school pupils across Egypt have been screened for anaemia, obesity, and stunting since the current academic year began. The Ministry of Health and Population reported that the nationwide health campaign started on September 27th.
Around 2,000 trained medical teams are conducting checks across 29,000 public and private primary schools, an effort scheduled to run throughout the academic year. The screenings involve measuring pupils' weight, height, and blood haemoglobin levels to detect nutritional disorders early.
Children diagnosed with conditions such as anaemia, obesity, or stunting are referred to Health Insurance Authority clinics. There, they receive further examinations, free medication, and regular follow-up care.
In addition to clinical checks, health education teams are running awareness sessions for students and their families. The programme is part of a presidential initiative launched in 2019 to combine early medical detection with ongoing treatment and monitoring.
