Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem emphasized the importance of linking education with industry to foster skilled workers, generate jobs, and enhance Egypt's industrial competitiveness. Speaking in Cairo on Saturday, the minister noted that human capital investment and industrial development must proceed together.
The remarks were delivered at the IE University Middle East and Africa Alumni Summit. Attendees included Spanish Ambassador to Egypt Sergio Román Carranza Forster, IE University Vice President for Global Marketing and Recruitment Mar Hurtado de Mendoza, alongside university officials, academics, and alumni.
Hashem stated that Egypt intends to elevate its standing in global supply chains by broadening local manufacturing, raising domestic value added, and building skills tailored for future industries. He added that strengthening collaboration between universities and businesses remains vital for sustainable economic growth.
The minister urged IE University to increase its footprint in Egypt by establishing more programs focused on innovation and entrepreneurship within the industrial sector. Such educational offerings would help close the divide between classroom instruction and labor market demands.
Drawing on his background as an alumnus of the institution, Hashem suggested that education should cultivate critical thinking and practical results rather than just academic credentials. He pointed out that continuous learning is necessary as technological changes reshape industry requirements.
Hashem concluded that realizing these objectives demands joint efforts involving the government, commercial enterprises, academic institutions, and professionals to strengthen the broader economy.
