Egypt's government has announced a comprehensive plan to increase pre-university teacher salaries to EGP 15,000 across the 2027/28 and 2028/29 fiscal years. The initiative follows presidential directives and recommendations from the Egypt Forum 2026.
During a joint press conference at the Ministry of Education in the New Capital, Minister of Education and Technical Education Mohamed Abdel Latif and Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk outlined the phased financial increases. The adjustments will start in July 2027 and apply to educators across both general education and Al-Azhar systems.
Under the funding structure, cumulative increases range from EGP 5,000 for assistant teachers up to EGP 6,000 for chief teachers over the two-year period. A dedicated monitoring committee will also be established to track education sector payments and prevent administrative delays.
Alongside salary adjustments, the ministries pledged funding for professional training and detailed a timeline to phase out evening school shifts. Primary schools will end evening classes by the 2027 academic year, followed by preparatory schools in 2028 and secondary schools in 2029, supported by the annual construction of 10,000 to 15,000 new classrooms.
Authorities also shared updates on technical education, aiming to expand applied technology schools to approximately 600 by 2030. Officials noted that 225 such institutions are already operating through domestic private sector collaboration and international partnerships with Italy and Germany.
