Egypt highlights artificial intelligence and trade technology at investment forum

Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid outlined Egypt's focus on foreign investment, small businesses, and trade technology.

Egypt is working to leverage foreign direct investment by strengthening connections between multinational corporations and domestic producers, according to Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid.

Speaking on Wednesday at a plenary session during the World Investment Forum 2026 in Doha, Qatar, Farid argued that foreign investment value extends beyond capital volume to include domestic production, job creation, and export expansion.

"Enabling small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to join global supply chains is essential to boosting local industry and expanding exports"

The minister pointed to the "Egypt Takes Off Through Exports" initiative and the Foreign Trade Information Platform as tools to help enterprises identify export avenues and access new markets. The platform supplies data regarding target markets, trade regulations, technical standards, rules of origin, and trade agreements.

Farid additionally emphasized the growing significance of trade technology and artificial intelligence in linking producers with international buyers and easing market information access. He advocated for testing innovative digital tools through the Trade Technology Regulatory Sandbox to advance modern trade services.

Furthermore, the minister noted that adaptability and continuous learning remain crucial competencies within a technology-driven economy, particularly as artificial intelligence continues to transform labor markets globally.
