Egyptian Minister Meets Iraqi Delegation to Discuss Japan‑Based Education Model

The Education Minister hosted Iraqi officials and JICA representatives to explore how Egypt’s partnership with Japan can be replicated in Iraq, focusing on schools, curricula and teacher training.

Minister of Education and Technical Education Mohamed Abdel Latif welcomed a high‑level delegation from Iraq’s Ministry of Education and the Japan International Co‑operation Agency (JICA) to discuss how Iraq could benefit from Egypt’s experience with Japan.

Abdel Latif explained that the Egyptian‑Japanese cooperation began after President Abdel Fattah El‑Sisi’s 2016 visit to Japan. The partnership has produced 103 Egyptian‑Japanese schools that serve more than 31,000 students nationwide and introduced the Tokkatsu programme, which develops character, teamwork and responsibility.

The minister also reviewed joint teacher‑training initiatives with Hiroshima University and the development of primary mathematics and science curricula. He noted the introduction of programming and artificial intelligence for first‑year secondary students through Japan’s KERIU platform, in partnership with Sprex and Hiroshima University, and the expansion of financial literacy, physics and chemistry curricula in the Egyptian Baccalaureate.

Iraqi officials and JICA representatives praised the success of the Egyptian‑Japanese model, especially the Tokkatsu activities and the modernised curricula. They expressed interest in adopting similar practices and agreed to continue coordination, exchange visits and share expertise to support educational development in Iraq.
