The Egyptian resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh is set to host the 2026 World University Finswimming Championships, according to the Ministry of Higher Education. This marks the first time the competition will be held in Egypt, the Arab world, or Africa.
The ministry stated that approximately 200 athletes from 20 countries are expected to participate in the event. The championships are backed by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and the World Underwater Federation (CMAS).
The Egyptian Universities Sports Federation is organizing the event in cooperation with the Egyptian Diving and Lifesaving Federation. Participating nations include France, China, Japan, Russia, Germany, Italy, Tunisia, and Egypt.
Delegations are scheduled to arrive on October 25, with the opening ceremony taking place on October 27. Competitions will run on October 28 and 29 at the Olympic swimming pool in Sharm El-Sheikh’s Sports City, concluding with a closing ceremony on October 29.
Organizers said that hosting the championships would strengthen university sport in Egypt and help promote sports tourism.
